报告题目:Polymeric Ladderphanes
报告人:Prof. Tien-Yau Luh (陆天尧教授)

A polymeric ladderphane is defined as multiple layers of cyclophanes where the tethers are part of the polymeric backbones.1-3 By ring opening metathesis polymerization of bisnorbornene derivatives using Grubbs-I catalyst, double stranded polymeric ladderphanes are conveniently obtained. A range of different linkers (ferrocenes, porphyrins, oligoaryls, crown ethers as well as chiral linkers) are used for the preparation of these polymeric ladderphanes. Triple stranded ladderphanes are also obtained by a similar strategy. Replication of a single stranded polymer for the synthesis of complimentary polynorbornenes as well as a range conjugated oligomers/polymers with well-defined molecular weight and narrow polydispersity will be discussed. The photophysical and magnetic properties, electrochemical behavior, self assembly and microscopic images as well as chemical modifications of both comb-like single stranded polynorbornenes and double stranded ladderphanes will be presented.

Prof. Tien-Yau Luh, obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago (with L. M. Stock) in 1974. After spending two years of postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota (with P. G. Gassman), he joined the faculty at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1976 and moved back in 1988 to his alma mater, National Taiwan University, where he is currently NTU Distinguished Professor of Chemistry.

He has published over 245 papers and received numerous awards (NTU Distinguished Professor, 2006-2012, Distinguished Research Fellow, Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica, 2001-2004, National Chair Award, Ministry of Education, 1999-2002, Ministry of Education Award for the Outstanding Research in Science, 1998, Ho Chin Tui Foundation Science Award, 1998, Outstanding Scholar Award, Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship, 1995-2000, Executive Yuan's Outstanding Award on Science and Technology, 1994) in Taiwan in addition to a recent JSPS fellowship (2009).

He is also serving as a member of the advisory/editorial board for ChemComm, Chemistry-A European Journal, Chemistry-An Asian Journal, Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan and Chemical Record. He was the Chairman of the 11th Symposium on the Organometallic Chemistry towards Organic Synthesis (OMCOS-11) in Taipei.? His current research interests include polymers chemistry, chemistry of materials, and synthetic methodologies.
